About CSEA
CSEA Local 830 is Nassau County’s Largest Public Service Union with 10,000 members in Nassau County. Local 830 is part of the CSEA Long Island Region One with 55,000 members islandwide, and CSEA Local 1000 with over 300,000 members statewide. Local 830 is led by President Jerry Laricchiuta.

About the Race
This will be CSEA Local 830's 1st Annual 5k Run/Walk. It is part of a healthy living initiative created by CSEA in Nassau County. This race is open to all runners and walkers in CSEA Local 830 and in the running community. CSEA Local 830 members will receive a discounted rate. The race will be certified by USA Track and Field and everyone will receive an official race time to be posted by the official race timer. There will be plenty of refreshments, raffle prizes, free race t-shirt and race results journal for all entrants.

Registration
The early bird price will be $14 for CSEA Local 830 members, and $17 for non-CSEA Local 830 members. That is prior to Sept. 17. Registration will open in early July on www.csea830.org, www.marathonguide.com and via paper application, available for download here or available at CSEA Local 830 office at 400 County Seat Drive in Mineola.

Awards & Refreshments
Refreshments will be served after the race, followed by an awards ceremony at the Physical Education Center at Nassau CC. Trophies will be awarded to the first overall male and female, first overall CSEA male and female, first in Wheelchair division & best costume. The top 3 in each age group (male & female each) will receive a medal, as well as all Kids Fun Run finishers. Each participant will receive a commemorative race t-shirt and a results journal in the mail following the race. Sponsors will also receive a journal with their name listed.

Raffle Prizes
Raffles will be done following the awards ceremony. Each runner/walker will tear off the raffle slip from their bib and have one entry into a special raffle. Prizes will include Yankee memorabilia from Jorge Posada, as well as
electronics, and gift certificates to local restaurants and shops.


The Jorge Posada Foundation and CAPPS
Craniosynostosis is a condition in which one or more of the sutures of an infant’s skull prematurely fuse. Surgery is the ONLY treatment for this. Positional plagiocephaly is when the sutures are open and early diagnosis and treatment are important to avoid further deformity. CSEA Local 830 member Amy Galm from the Communications Bureau Operators, has a ten year old son Maxwell that was diagnosed with both conditions which went undiagnosed and untreated resulting in craniofacial deformity and the need for cranial vault surgery.Amy is the director of CAPPS, (Craniosynostosis and Positional Plagiocephaly Support Inc) which works alongside the Jorge Posada Foundation for Craniosynostosis, created by the New York Yankee catcher Jorge Posada nearly 10 years ago when his son was diagnosed with the condition. Their joint goal is to raise awareness of these conditions so no child goes undiagnosed or has to suffer from a delay in treatment.
