Hundreds are Expected for CSEA Local 830 Halloween 5k for the Jorge Posada Foundation & CAPPS

CSEA Nassau Local 830, Nassau County’s largest public service union with 10,000 members, is holding their First Annual 5k Run/Walk on Sunday, October 31, 2010 at 9:30am at Nassau Community College in Garden City.  They have partnered with the Jorge Posada Foundation for Craniosynostosis and CAPPS (Craniosynostosis and Positional Plagiocephaly Support Inc.)  Hundreds of runners and dozens of sponsors have already confirmed participation.

Craniosynostosis is a condition in which one or more of the sutures of an infant’s skull prematurely fuse.  Surgery is the only treatment for this.  One in every 2,000 infants are affected by Craniosynostosis and one in every 350 by Positional Plagiocephaly.

All profits from the race will be going to both of these organizations.  The race will be open to all CSEA Local 830 members, as well as the entire Long Island community and beyond.  Sign up is online at www.csea830.org

Posada will be donating memorabilia as raffle prizes.  Other features will be a kids’ fun run, best costume contest, information fair for sponsors, refreshments, and awards to age group winners.  The race is certified by United States Track and Field (USATF) on a brand new course at Nassau Community College.

The Jorge Posada Foundation was created ten years ago by the Yankee catcher.  CAPPS was founded in 1999, has 7,000 members worldwide and are led by CSEA Local 830 member Amy Galm.  The race’s presenting sponsor is Bethpage Federal Credit Union, who has 165,000 members nationwide. Other sponsors include Orthomerica, Long Island Neurosurgical Association, Dr. David Staffenberg, Long Island Plastic Surgical Group, Monroe Orthotics and Prosthetics, Advanced Neurosurgery Association, Valic, Davis Vision, Feldman, Kramer and Monaco and Healthplex.

CSEA Local 830 President is Jerry Laricchiuta.  Local 830 is under CSEA Long Island Region One and President Nick LaMorte with 50,000 members.  The CSEA Statewide President is Danny Donohue, with over 300,000 members.
