Laura Posada is a family health and fitness activist and philanthropic icon. A modern day “super-woman,” Laura maintains a healthy and fit family, and still found enough time to write a book about it all. In FIT HOME TEAM, released September 8, 2009, Laura illustrates the triumph of raising a healthy and fit family in the modern world. Honored with three esteemed 2009 Atria Book Awards, her debut book earned 1st prize as The Mariposa Awards Best First Book and took 2nd place in both Best Health Book and Best Parenting/Family Book categories.
Having always maintained a healthy lifestyle for herself, Laura ensures the same groundwork for her children. Laura strives to take the “work” out of working out by finding activities that her kids will enjoy, without them realizing they’re exercising. Using the same philosophy with diet, she drives home the importance of healthy eating habits from a young age, allowing her children to be stronger and healthier individuals. With a husband in the athletic spotlight, Laura is constantly asked how she is able to maintain a healthy routine within a hectic life; her proven success has urged her to share her secrets and tips in her most recent book.
As an attorney barred in both Puerto Rico and the US Federal Court, Laura has worn many hats in the professional world. Growing up, Laura began her career as a publicist, hosting television shows, and working as a fitness model and actress. Since, Laura’s love for fitness and health has inspired her to formally educate herself in this arena and is now a certified personal trainer.
In the late 1990’s, Laura’s son, Jorge Jr., was born with Craniosynostosis, prompting the family to found The Jorge Posada Foundation to bring awareness and support to other families dealing with the same struggles. As co-founder and President, Laura offers emotional support to fellow parents of children with Craniosynostosis, and has created a Mentors Program. Her activism and foundation works were celebrated by President Obama at a White House Speech in April 2010. She continues to be an integral force in awarding numerous grants to craniofacial medical centers and service-related organizations, which have increased over 500% since the foundation’s inception. Her determination to generate awareness about the condition has resulted in a significant number of placements in magazines, newspapers, radio, as well as appearances in popular TV shows like the Today Show, Discovery Channel’s American Chopper, and ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, The Wendy Williams Show, Fox News, and ABC’s What’s the Buzz. Laura has graced the covers of the New York Post and New York Daily News, and has also been featured in People Magazine, Parade, Athlete Quarterly, Ocean Drive, Gotham, People Espanol, and OK! magazines and has recently inked a deal with the Meredith Corporation.
Dedicated to her mission to spread awareness about Craniosynostosis, Laura also serves on the Board of Directors of the National Foundation for Facial Reconstruction. Together with her husband, Laura received the 2006 Puerto Rican Family Foundation Excellence Award for their commitment to children, especially those affected by Craniosynostosis. In October 2007, she received the Commitment to Family Award from the Girls and Boys Town of New York.
Most recently, Laura has been recognized for both her inner and outer beauty. In August of 2010, she was chosen as the International Godmother for the 50th Anniversary of the Puerto Rican Parade and Heritage Festival in New Jersey. She was nominated as one of 2009’s Latino Trendsetters by Defining Trends magazine, honoring her as a leader and innovator in the Hispanic community. Comité Noviembre honored Laura with the 2009 Puerto Rican Heritage Month Award, for her continual work in preserving Puerto Rico’s rich culture and heritage. Also in 2009, Laura was named Super-Mom by the magazine Selecciones and will also receive the Inspiring Words award from the Latin Pride National Awards. In 2008, Laura was named an “Always Inspiring Woman” by Siempre Mujer magazine, in addition to receiving JCPenney’s “Luminous Beauty Award”.
Laura has rooted her life philosophy in the premise that health is the most valuable commodity and everyone should do all in their power to pursue it. This philosophy and the lifestyle changes that promote it are the foundation of FIT HOME TEAM.
